Frequently asked questions
What is Aquamation?
Aquamation is a gentler form of cremation in which water is used instead of fire.
How does Aquamation work?
Aquamation uses water and an alkaline solution to gently break down the body and mimic the decomposition process found in nature.
What are the benefits of water cremation?
Aquamation has many benefits including:
Environmental: No carbon emissions into the air (fire) and no nitrogen deposits in the soil (burial)
Environmental: It is a much more sustainable process as all water used has two possible destinations which are the potential for fertilizer for farmland as the organic components are very rich OR it is filtered multiple times to become clean, safe drinking water
Process: It is a gentler process than fire cremation leading to receiving approximately 20% MORE of your pet back.
Do I still get ashes back with Aquamation?
Yes. If you would like your pet’s ashes returned to you, a private cremation will be performed and the ashes will be returned in an urn of your choosing.
What is the difference between private and communal aquamation?
A private cremation means your pet is handled individually and you will receive ashes in an urn of your choosing.
A communal cremation means your pet is handled in a group setting and you will not receive ashes in return.
What is the cost compared to flame based cremation or other aquamation companies?
We at Gentle Waters believe aquamation is a compassionate aftercare choice that should be available to everyone. Because of this, we are competitively priced, making our services much more affordable for the general public.
How do I know the returned remains belong to my pet?
Upon entering our facility, your pet will receive it’s very own identification tag with a unique number. This tag will stay with your pet throughout the entire process and will be given to you upon delivery of ashes. The information from this tag will also be available to you throughout this process.
What is your expected turn-around time?
Our expected turn around time is estimated to about 7 days. It may be sooner or slightly later, depending upon the time of year as intake volume does vary seasonally.
Do you have memorial items available?
Yes! We offer a wide variety of memorial keepsakes for you to choose from including paw prints, fur clippings, clay paw molds, foam paw impressions, custom urns, and more! Please let us know at the beginning of your aquamation journey if any of these would be of interest to you and our team will gladly get them done.
Where are you located?
We are located in the center of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and serve surrounding areas.
Are you open now?
Unfortunately we are currently still a work in progress but expect to be open in the Summer of 2026 and are eager to begin serving the DFW area!
